Te Awanga Coastal Protection

After Cyclone Gabrielle caused severe flooding in Te Awanga, Hastings District Council partnered with EcoReef^® to protect the coastal lagoon (home to critical stormwater infrastructure) and nearby properties. A modular EcoReef^® retaining wall was installed to withstand high wave energy while preserving public beach access and the natural surf break. The project successfully balanced infrastructure resilience with environmental and community needs.
